Look above, and note the interlocking channels. This ball although visually appealing will soon die. David Stern ordered for the execution of this ball as of January 1, 2007. In a one-on-one interview with this ball I asked how it felt to be a star for such a short time. The balls answer was somewhat surprising as the ball exclaimed, "I didn't want this job. This job was forced on me, I mean, I knew I sucked, David Stern knew I sucked my life was to be used on crappy outdoor courts by Lincoln Golf Course, and to be punted by big Joe. I was happy with that. Some people say that they are just waiting for their shot at the big time, but I tell you what, the big time sucks.

The former NBA ball, which I found vacationing in Lawrence learning about its roots is nervous about coming back. The ball anticipates to be a little rusty, but believes that within a week or two he will be able to bounce like he did in his prime.

Lesson #21. I believe that if the twins were to have a homer hanky for this year, that we could win the AL Central. Yep I said it, if you make the hanky we won't have to worry about the wildcard.

I am getting excited about the fact that the twinkies will have an open-air stadium, and I won't have to worry about the giant garbage bag that is the right field wall. I attended a Royals/Twins game, and it was amazing to see the thousands that showed up from Minnesota. It makes me wonder how many people will make the trip down I-35 once the twins have the new stadium.

The accounts and descriptions of this blog entry may not be disseminated in any form without the expressed written consent of Lane Leedahl.

The Return is Coming Soon...

Lesson #19 Baseball, Beer, and Buffalo Wings. We went to a Royals game. It was dollar hot dog night. The Royals won, and it was nice that Dan could drive us home. When we got back to Lawrence, Jack was in a big time mood for some big time chicken wings; I agreed. Nothing like baseball, beer, and buffalo wings to make a day with your #1 dad, and one crazy cat named DVJS.

Picture #1 is a picture of me and my dad. He is awesome. It was his birthday weekend, and he turned 60, but you could have mistaken him for 30.

Picture #2 is a picture of pops and me. Beautiful stadium.
Picture #3 shows how when you go to a baseball game with Jack, you make yourself feel at home. Sitting on the dugout. Notice the smirk on Dan, he knows something we don't know, and is trying to visualize a Lakers victory over the Suns. Dan the Lakers lost in game 7.

Picture #4 shows that when it is your birthday weekend rules do not apply. Not even a "no smoking" sign could stop Jack. In reality his cigarette is not lit, and that was truly the area to smoke.
Thanks for coming down, spending time with me, and making it an amazing weekend.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://laneslessons.blogspot.com/2006/05/lesson-19-baseball-beer-and-buffalo.html' title='Lesson #19 Baseball, Beer, and Buffalo Wings. My father has visited me, along with my friend Dan. I will post pictures of their trip later, but this post will be brief as I have to work in the morning. Work has taken away from my blogging abilities, but work is great. I feel good about the direction it is going, and this week I have an opportunity to introduce myself to Thrivent members in the area. I have had to commute to Overland Park, a suburb of KC, for sales training. The trip isn't bad, but its nuts around rush hour. I'll post again later this week. Sorry for the absence from blogoland.

Lesson #17 If you you get hurt at work, it won't hurt to miss work."

This post has nothing to do with getting hurt, I just like the Aflac commercial with Yogi.

Skye's father, Don, was down here for a while last week. He traveled from Minot, ND picked up a friend/agent named Josh, and they trekked down here to visit us, and play some golf, before they were to go to Savannah, GA via airlplane out of Kansas City.
Don wins these trips you see, through work, and this year Skye was able to go with him. So I was home alone. I felt like Kevin McAllister as I battled off robbers, and met creepy men with shovels. It was fun batchin' it as my father would say, but I was ready to have Skye home again.

I am excited to be alive! Opening day of baseball is right around the corner, and Kaufman Stadium is in my back yard. April 3rd marks opening day, and this season is going to be a great one. Watch for the return of the pitcher, due to the more strict policy on the roids. Baseball will be like it once was, where the home run leader has 45 dongs instead of 105. Pitchers will regain some of their lost confidence, and rise through the ashes like a phoenix soaring towards the heavens.

Crummy start of the season for you die hard cubs fans . Prior and Wood once again on the DL.

Work is going well. I few weeks ago i passed my series 6 test, and on Monday I passed my series 63. All I need to do now is pass my state life and health test, and my journey will be complete.
Now I go to Kansas City to pick up my study materials. I leave you now, but return I shall.

Be Safe, be cool, be one, be many, be yourself, be merry, or even be Mary, be something.
Lane Leedahl, over and out!

Lesson #16 "you can take the fest out of spring but you cant take the spring out of a college step!"

It has come to my attention that there is a possibility that there may not be a Springfest. This is a shame.

Looking at Springfest as purely an economic machine it means more to the Grand Forks community than the Super Bowl. Beer sales are up, pizza delivery is up, Mcmenemy's 3 for ones are up, and the beauty with all of this is that it is all taxable. The police motto is to "Protect and Serve," and its about time they pump the keg of economic greatness.

If you look at the past incidents, the majority of the people ruining springfest are people who are not going to the University of North Dakota, they are Crookston flunkies, or just old creepy dudes trying to get some tail.

Springfest is a right of passage into adulthood, just like heading to Emerson when you finally turn 18. (Sorry Mom and Dad, but you most likely knew anyway.) Springfest is a great opportunity for students and faculty to express themselves. The community of Grand Forks budgets money each year for the parks, and these parks are unused. This is an opportunity for the Park District to shine. I mean have you noticed, how clean the park is by the end of the next day, thats how good are park district is, but if not for Springfest the become the enemy, with people complaining that there aren't enough pools, and splash parks.

To the people who live near University Park: Be active in Springfest, you chose to live next to University Park. It's a University! Think of how many tax dollars the city of GF receives per year because of the endless amounts of money college students spend, and people sit there and bitch that these kids get drunk! They are in college, you were in college and probably drank, and hated the proverbial "man". Lighten up and embrace this college town.

It's a shame that the city uses the posibility of someone getting hurt, when I was a kid and I did something stupid, my parents would help me, but at the same time realize that its nobody's fault but my own. Hold each individual responsible, but do not tarnish the right of passage for these college men and women.

Out.

A 5k, a rude awakening, and a Kansas victory.

Saturday morning came early, as a was reminded that we had signed up for a 5k run/walk/struggle. I was not in the best of conditions to be participating in the event. It was a late night with some friends, and I had some serious cotton mouth. We managed to finish the race, which wasn't a race at all. There was no group start and no time person. I approximate that we finished in under 35 minutes. Definately could have pushed harder, but then i would have been sore afterward. This was I was able to have a productive day. After the race Skye treated me to a Sonic Breakfast Burrito. It was good.

This morning mother nature thought it would be funny to wake me up with 77 mph winds, which came in the form of a tornado. The noise was incredible, but it did not make skye or i get out of bed. We lost power for quite some time today, and the damage around Lawrence is amazing. The mighty wind uprooted quite a few trees, tore shingles off of select roofs, and toppled over the big Taco Johns sign across the street from us. So there is no longer a whole lot of Mexican going on. We are under a tornado watch until 10 and I'm kind of hoping to see some sweet funnel formations.

The power came on in time for me to watch the Big 12 Championship game, and Kansas defeated Texas to win. It was awesome, and I project them to be a 4 or 5 seed in the big dance.

Over and Out

Lesson #15 Remember the Greats

A truly sad day in sports today, as the death of Kirby Puckett was announced. Kirby was a faavorite of mine, and a favorite of Skye's. Kirby was signing autographs when Skye was 17, and Skye went through the line twice so he would sign more of her cards, and other memorabilia

I think everyone remembers the '91 World Series, and the things that Kirby did in that series were amazing. The home-run in game 6, and more amazing, the catch in which it seemed Kirby jumped 5 feet to rob Ron Gant.

10 time all-star, amazing
A .318 lifetime batting average. Amazing.
Hall of Fame on first ballot, amazing.
He was a huge icon despite his diminuitive size.

I will always remember the way his name was called out on the PA system, by Bob Casey.
#34 Kiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbyyyyyyyyyyyy Puuuuuuuuuuucccccccccckkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeettttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

Lesson #14 Michelle Kwan's announcement should not make you cry

So I was studying tonight when i heard Skye crying, I asked if she was crying and she said it was from michelle kwan's special tribute report tonight. I then laughed at her and she said I was insensitive.

This weekend a bunch of my friends are coming to visit Skye and I. It will be a wild time, because Saturday Kansas plays Missouri, and that is their rival game.

This coming Sunday also marks the start of another year of America's favorite drinking sport as the Daytona 500 marks the beginning of the NASCAR season. I'm pretty excited to watch. Ok so im not, but i wonder what the miller lite car will look like?

Padme is continuing to grow, and she is becoming more and more obedient.
We got snow on Saturday, and it was funny because now it is all gone.

I take my series 7 examination on Feb. 22nd. I hope that i pass, because i'd be pretty dissapointed to study so hard for a test and not pass. The old Trek 8000 isn't what it used to be. My lackluster care for the aluminum monster, along with the fact that its about ten years old leads me to believe that something needs to be done. I have decided that the Trek 8000 will be turned into a single speed. I'd imagine that couldn't cost too much. Along with transforming it into a single speed I will also purchase some new rims and tires. I do not know how to build a single speed so I am currently accepting bids from bike builders across the country.

Now for more fun topics. Today is the Super Bowl, and I will be at the VFW watching the game today. Skye works today, and I have watched the past 3 Super Bowls with her, so why not make it 4. Padme is growing and is behaving well as of late.

My friend Dan, Dan Sondreal that is was seen buying 17 boxes of cereal in one day from Hugos. Along with buying 17 boxes of cereal he also bought 5 gallons of milk. Good luck to Dan on his continued efforts to support the grain growers, and dairy producers. Way to go Dan.

Dr. Mike Burton is in a new show on CBS called Courting Alex. So its nice to see the crew from Ed back on different shows.

Nothing else to report.
-End-

Lesson #12 TNSTAAFL

This is most likely the single most debated topic among the educated scholars these days. Is there such thing as a free lunch? It is a question that is to be debated. Right now I am writing this post on the brand new IBM Laptop from Thrivent, without using any wires. In addition to the computer they also sent a wireless router, sexy leather carrying case, and lots of instructions. I pay for the computer, but the wireless router was completely free to me. Is this a free lunch? What about when you drive by the Happy Joe's in GF and see that your name is up there for a free buffet. It says free, and you even get a soda, there is no obligation to tip, since you serve yourself, but I usually leave a buck. The TNSTAAFL question is a direct rival to the if a tree falls in the woods, and no one is there, does it make a sound?

If these two questions formed a duo of questions, they would be amongst the ranks of peanut butter and jelly, bevis and butthead, ted nugent and animals, Joe Bueno and Leslie Styles, thunder and lightning, etc.

Here are some other random thoughts that I have:
Kansas will make it to the sweet 16
Seahawks will dominate the super bowl. (How can they be underdogs)
Skye and I have a church potluck on Sunday, and I am bringing green bean casserole
I'm worried about Brooks and negative peer pressure
Brian and Heather are engaged
There are 3 high performance computers in our apartment
Dan Sondreal has a crush on his hair stylist
Kevin Garnett should ask to go to the Blazers, so he can be cool like Kevin Duckworth was
I am listening to "feel me flow" by naughty by nature
I ache to play basketball again
Everyone should move to Lawrence
Someone send me Red River Valley Potatoes
I am done

Lesson #11 Even you can hold the "cup"

I thought that I'd put this picture on the old bloggity blog to make you hockey fans a little surprised. This is the Stanley cup, and i am holding and kissing the cup. It was pretty cool, and had a shine like no other. Notice the stocking hat. I have had that hat for many years and never lost it. My brother gave it to me. This is a picture of the movie I starred in. Me and Kevin Spacey go way back, and Jeff Bridges was thinking that I would make a great addition in the Big Lebowski part II, the battle for Bunny LaJoya. I talked to my friend Dan today, and he told me that Jake Voskuhl is getting some solid playing time, due to extreme team injuries. So best of luck to jake, and hopefully he single-handedly changes around the Bobcats season.

Leedahl Out

Lesson #10 This city was in fact built on Rock and Roll

So, I have a new favorite TV show. It's called "Love Monkey," and it stars none other than my boy Tom Cavanaugh. He is Canadian. This show is awesome, and just like my former favorite show, "Ed" it has amazing music. The plotline is about a music label worker trying to figure out himself, and trying to figure out music.

In this picture he is saying to his buddies that he is being referred to as a suit, but he thinks he's a bandana. (notice that the hooded sweatshirt says Gustavus). I am battling the inner demons of becoming a suit myself, but trying not to lose myself in the midst of a career.

Things here are going great, Thrivent sent me a wireless router, and it arrived today. My computer should arrive in the next day or so. I started getting paid last friday, so pretty much i am just sitting at home studying, taking online quizzes, playing with the dog, and getting paid. It sounds like I'm on a gravy train with buiscut wheels, but I find myself getting bored at times, because I just read, and take quizzes. I'm anxious to sell.

What a tennis match last night! I thought Hingis was going to pull it off, and when she develops a better serve she is going to be a contender.

I have a brother and his name is Brooks.
I have a PUR water filter
I want to see "Two for the Money"
Ground Control to Major Tom
Done.

Lesson #9 Go the Distance

This is a picture of my Skye! She is wonderful, and understanding, and the best person that you could ever meet. Tonight I went to the VFW where it was Karaoke night. I sang a few tunes. I started out the night with "Brandy" by LOOKING GLASS. After large applause by the vets; I decided to give them a little "In the Ghetto, in honor of my uncle Andy. I did some training and drank 2 pitchers of beer. (Some of you Blog readers spend your training riding bikes, trust me, my training is much more intense than yours. Skye got off work at about 1:00 and we went to another bar. At this bar I ran into my former Sunflake soccer coach, Kyle Schneweis, it was neat. He said that earlier that day Jeremy Zimney was drinking at that bar with him. So Lawrence is the center of all things GF, and thats kinda neat. Padme is super big right now, and I will try to post a picture showing how long she is. She is huge compared to when we got her, and she was mini.

In about two weeks I will be done studying for my General Securites License, which is the highest selling financial license that one can pretty much achieve without being a NYSE trader. Its ridiculously mind numming, but if you need to know anything about government debt, equities, options, bonds, taxes, etc. ask me in about two and a half weeks.

Also, as of note for Brooks, this lady who goes to the VFW works at the VW dealer here, offered me a job if it didn't work out at Thrivent, and said she could obtain a Jetta Diesel in about 30 days if you were interested.

Peace and Hair Grease from the Middle East

L to the ane.

Lesson #8 When in Kansas Backcountry act accordingly

Yesterday while Skye was working at the VFW, a couple of nice older people invited us to go with them to Apple Valley with them to see a band that was playing. Skye and I didn't have any plans so we decided to give it a go.

This place was in the middle of nowhere, about 30 miles west/northwest of Lawrence. Apple Valley reminded me of Red Willow minus Bill's field of dreams. This was straight honkey tonk. I only wish I had on my shitkickers and a pair of wranglers. We then proceeded to drink Miller High Life on tap, and do some serious line dancing. It was about 11:00 when I saw the greatest thing I had ever seen.

So there was this guy there wearing jeans and a wifebeater, he had shitty tattoos on his arms, and weighed around 130 pounds. His footwear was to die for, he was wearing big rubber boots, and his jeans were tucked into the boots. This lady we were with said "nice boots" and he said they were his chore boots. He was most likely cleaning up cow dung all evening and thought to himself, "I bet these would make me some fine dancin shoes."

We had a real good time, but the words that I use cannot give the justice that this slack jawed yokel requires to accurately describe him. It was hilarious.

Lesson #7 Where do the days go?

Gee Wilikers Gold Prospector, I just checked my blog and my last update was four days ago! Where do these so called days run off to?

Days pass by in hours which are subdivided into minutes and seconds. Time continuously passes by making people like myself wonder where does this time go? What is time? Is time real? Are we real?

To make matters worse things like flux compacitors and the possibilities of traveling at the speed of light make you, the human race, question time.

The answer to all of this is that time exists, and it is time that we utilize to make moments, that last in our hearts, and in our minds forever making time not go by, but by becoming lasting memories through events that stay in our thoughts forever.

I am heading to K-PAX tomorrow so do not expect a post on the blog, but the I'll only be gone for what you humans call an hour or two, but what we K-PAXians call a goluopugo.

Peace and Hair Grease

Goodbye; Hello

Lesson #6 Dogs are awesome

I have a dog, and i enjoy having a dog.
Dogs are super.
Look at this face, how can you not love it?
Padme is housebroken and she likes to play fetch with Mr. Squeaky(bottom picture) Mr. Squeaky has a squeaker, and ropes, and looks like a cat. I will be starting training next week. During the interview the regional senior partner asked me what my major was, and I said I got a b.a. in history. He said that is a better major than finance, business, etc. because through a liberal arts degree in history you obtain such a broad base of knowledge. Scotty No just tell your mother that if she ever gives you grief about getting a history degree. You can get any job in the world, unless a specialized degree is needed, with a history degree.

I go now, my planet needs me.

Lesson #5 Try and make requests a reality

This blog is in response to my brother Brooks, and all the other human beings out there who may be concerned with either a) my current living situation. b) the general well-being of our puppy named Padme, or a combination of the two. Hopefully this photoblog will let you sleep better at night, knowing that I am healthy, happy, and safe. The order of the pictures was randomly created by the blog gods as I was pretty sure the first one I put on there was the outside picture, but oh well.

To your right you will see a picture of a microwave, pizza oven, and a fridge. They all work well. Pizza ovens make awesome nachos.

This first picture is a picture of the apartment from the outside. Skye's bike is on the patio, she sports the old trustworthy Giant Rincon

This picture is a beauty. It shows our kitchen in full force. As you can see we have a stove oven combination. A great tool for cooking. We have wall to wall carpeting, and you are lucky if you can count on one hand the amount of people that have wall to wall carpeting. The kitchen has changed since this picture was taken. The garbage can is over by the microwave, and a super sweet pub table has moved where the garbage can is shown in this picture. The table is awesome its like you are sitting at one of those nifty high top tables at your favorite resturant.

This next picture is a personal favorite of mine. Skye captured the beauty and quality of this fine piece of chair. This chair used to belong to my beloved Aunt Linda. It is extremely comfortable, and while sitting in it I reflect on my time as running for District 42.

This final picture is a picture of Mr. Lamp, Sgt. Sofa, and Commander Coffee table. The table is like the one that resides in the downstairs of 128 Sleepy Hollow. It is a fully functional table that many dinners have been enjoyed on prior to the purchase of our kitchen table. The couch is a great sit, but can be a little short to fully enjoy a full fledged naperoo.

I was only allowed to post five pictures, and you haven't even seen where the magic happens and where I relieve myself if I have to go number 1 or 2. There is also another bedroom another bathroom, they are nice and I will post them when I think you are ready to see them. I will also post pictures of Padme, Jake Voskuhl, and Dikembe Mutumbo. Once baseball season is in full swing we will track the progress of the Minnesota Twins, and try to get an interview or two with Lew Ford.

This is Padme! Happy New Year.

Carlos Delgado is my real brother.

This is Jake Voskuhl, He is the NBA me. I have arrived in Kansas, and my clothes are put away, Padme is scared of heights, and I have no job at the moment. (Jan 5.) But I have made the adjustments, and my body is undergoing the changes that are necessary. I find myself falling out of full plumage as my beard will have to be shaved. I find that updating blogs in Kansas is easier as well, due to the fact that the computer here is far superior to the black piece of robotic shit that moves at snail speeds at the 128 Sleepy Hollow residence. I have adapted the deck to simulate grass for young Padme Amidalla. We, (Skye and I) bought a piece of the really horrible green fake grass/carpet cut it to fit the deck, and now she poops there. Before the rug was there she poopied, and it slid through the cracks and splattered down on the neighbors deck, who reportedly are really funny looking, I think one has a triangle face like Peja Stoyokovic.

It was about 52 degrees here in L-town today. As the newest resident of Lawrence, I do not have a tavern to call my own, but i'm playing the field to see which tavern will fit me best. (The lack of Miller Lite on tap makes it difficult to find a regular bar.) On the positive side of the bar scene I am eight beers through the World Beer Tour at Old Chicago. I know what you are thinking, you are thinking, "whoa Lane slow down, Back the truck up, make responsible choices, Eight beers in one sitting, grow up!" I didn't drink all eight at one time, I went there when I was down here in August over many afternoons, making the beers "nooners" which doesn't count as actual drinking.

The grocery store here is named Dillon's. I like to say that it is owned by Corey Dillon of the New England Patriots, and that is why the prices are so low, because having such low prices allowed Mr. Dillon to rush for 287 yards on 22 carries giving him the second best single game rushing ever! Thank you for you kindness Mr. Dillon and keep pushing those prices down, and your rushing yards up.

If my thick skull can figure out how to post pictures I will otherwise you will have to let my vivid writing and accurate decriptions paint the pictures in your mind, for in the mind is where the truth is held, and where authoriy is questioned. Be smart, Be still, Be what you want to be, and try to be a little part of me!

Lesson #2 X-mas edition

The older you get the less you want for christmas, kwanza, rhammadonn, hannukuh, Bueno's birthday, etc. however you need to tell people what you want as a gift. Elton John makes it known to us that he wants love, just a different kind. Tell people what you want for the holiday season through any avenue that is convenient for you, such as morse code, telegram, phone call, email, fax, letter to the editor, skywriting, sign-language, chest bumps, artwork, etc.

I also puchased a puppy, actually Skye, my beloved finance (I call her my finance, not fiancee, due to the fact that when she graduates i will not have to work) purchased the puppy. The puppy's name is Padme, a salute to Padme Amidallia from Star Wars. I like to call the puppy, Patty Mae, Patty Melt, Hamburger Patty, Patty Duke, Tookie, Tookis, Puppy, Dikembe Mutumbo, etc. The dog is the greatest in the world, and it is better than your dog.

I move to Kansas in a few days, I think I am leaving on the 28th to pursue my new life.

Jake Voskuhl is the bomb.

Brooks has a bun in the oven.

Andy likes talking about human poop.

Brian likes orange juice.

Simmons wants my sweet Trek 8000 with its pimped out water bottle holders, and wicked handle bar extenders.

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States.

Brooks does not have a bun in the oven.

Mary, tell Scotty No, that he has to come to my wedding. I call him Scotty No like they do in Austin Powers.

When people say something obvious, and people respond by saying "Does a bear shit in the woods?" I wonder does a bear shit in the woods?
